Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
